Portcrystal Map: Fixed Destinations and Portable Placement
Research checked October 9, 2026 · 7 min read
The current normal-world fixed Portcrystal destinations include Vernworth, Harve, Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town and Volcanic Island Camp. The latter three were added in the researched June 2026 update, which also introduced the Eternal Ferrystone through early Brant progression. Keep fixed destinations separate from portable crystals you place yourself, and remember that portable deployment must be rebuilt in another story cycle.
Fixed destinations versus portable placement
A fixed Portcrystal is an established world destination, while a portable crystal is a travel point positioned by the player. A map guide should label those separately. A recommendation to place a crystal near a useful objective does not mean one already exists there in every save.
This distinction also affects what you need to obtain. Reaching and activating a fixed destination is different from having a portable item available for deployment. Plan around the actual travel points in your save rather than treating every marker in a placement video as an automatically unlocked destination.
Updated normal-world fixed locations
Vernworth and Harve are the familiar fixed destinations in launch-era coverage. The June 2026 update adds Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town and Volcanic Island Camp. Older answers listing only the first two no longer describe the researched current normal-world set.
Use the table as a destination checklist rather than a claim that every point is already active on a new character. Visit and check the actual travel availability as your story progresses. Endgame destinations and player-created placements should remain separate from this normal-world reference.
| Fixed destination | Research context |
|---|---|
| Vernworth | Established normal-world destination |
| Harve | Established normal-world destination |
| Melve | Added in the June 2026 travel update |
| Checkpoint Rest Town | Added in the June 2026 travel update |
| Volcanic Island Camp | Added in the June 2026 travel update |
Eternal Ferrystone access
The June update introduces an Eternal Ferrystone obtained through early Brant progression. This reduces dependence on consumable Ferrystones compared with launch-era travel advice. Follow the relevant early story context rather than assuming every character begins with the updated travel tool automatically available.
A travel item and a destination are still separate requirements to think about. The presence of an Eternal Ferrystone does not mean every fixed crystal has already been activated or that a suggested portable location exists. Review both the available tool and the destination you intend to use before planning an immediate return trip.
Monster Culling and a portable reward
Monster Culling gains a portable Portcrystal reward in the researched update. That gives early Brant progression relevance to both travel tools and a player-placed destination. Keep the portable reward separate from the fixed crystals added at named settlements.
Once you have a portable crystal, choose its location according to the route you actually revisit. A reward item in your inventory is not the same as an active travel point already positioned on the map. Check where you deployed it and whether that placement still serves the quests or services you intend to use next.
The Sphinx as another crystal opportunity
The Sphinx can provide a Portcrystal and duplicate an offered item through Conviction. A crystal is a useful duplication choice if another portable destination would help your travel plan. The riddle's reward and duplication route belong to that quest, rather than being automatic travel items granted merely for visiting a shrine.
Use the Sphinx guide for the riddle conditions and the distinction between its two locations. Do not use an older video claiming all six portable crystals as a verified current maximum. The collected current travel context changes what is available and makes the fixed-versus-portable distinction more important than a historical total.
Choose placements around repeated journeys
Consider a frequently revisited quest hub or remote shrine that is not already covered by a fixed destination. This is placement advice, not a list of additional world objects. The best choice for your save depends on which journeys you repeat and which fixed points you have already made usable.
Review the placement when your active objectives change. A destination that was valuable during one investigation can become less useful once that chain is complete. Avoid placing a portable crystal solely because an old map recommends it without checking whether a later update added a nearby fixed travel point.
Do not duplicate the same map symbol for every point
When keeping your own travel notes, use different labels for fixed crystals and portable placements. Also distinguish an already deployed crystal from a location you are only considering. This makes the map an accurate record of your current save instead of a mixture of facts and future recommendations.
Record the reason for a portable placement, such as a repeated NPC visit or a remote objective. That note helps when deciding whether to reposition it later. It also prevents a suggested shrine placement from being remembered as a permanent world destination available to every new character.
New cycles reset portable deployment
Another story cycle requires portable Portcrystals to be positioned again. Do not assume that your old deployment network remains at the same coordinates after the story resets. Character carry-over and player-created world placement are different parts of the progression rules.
Use the New Game Plus guide when planning retained progression and reset story state. Keep a list of useful old placements if you want to recreate the network. That is a planning aid rather than a guarantee that all travel destinations are ready from the opening of the next cycle.
Keep normal world and endgame travel separate
The Unmoored World has a changed terrain and objective context. Its destinations should not be mixed into the normal-world fixed list as though they were available in every story state. If you are navigating that branch, use an endgame-specific route and confirm the current travel points in your save.
The world map guide separates regional orientation from travel methods, while the Unmoored guide covers the endgame sequence. Oxcarts also belong to a different travel system from Ferrystone destinations. Keeping those layers separate helps you choose a valid route rather than infer one from a familiar icon alone.
Build a travel network for your present objectives
Check the updated fixed destinations first, then review Eternal Ferrystone access and portable rewards through Brant's early progression. Place portable crystals where repeat journeys remain inconvenient, and label the recommendation separately until it is actually deployed. Reassess when story objectives or available travel points change.
For an older save or guide, compare its assumptions with the researched June update rather than repeating launch-era consumable costs as universally mandatory. For a new cycle, rebuild portable deployment deliberately. These checks answer the map and travel question without inventing a current crystal maximum or claiming every destination begins activated.
Common questions
Are Vernworth and Harve still the only fixed points? The researched June update also adds Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town and Volcanic Island Camp. Keep those fixed normal-world destinations separate from portable placements and endgame points. Check activation in your own save instead of assuming every listed destination is already ready on a new character.
Where should I place a portable crystal? Consider a frequently revisited destination not already served by a useful fixed crystal. A remote shrine or quest hub can be a practical choice when that journey remains part of your current objectives. Label the location as your recommendation or deployment rather than an existing fixed world object shared by every player.
Does a new story cycle preserve my placement network? Portable deployment must be rebuilt in another cycle. Keep a note of useful former positions if you want to recreate them after the reset. Character carry-over, travel-item ownership and the world locations where you place crystals are distinct parts of planning the next run.
