Character Creation: Arisen, Main Pawn and Import
Research checked October 9, 2026 · 7 min read
The free Character Creator & Storage tool lets you design the Arisen and Main Pawn before starting Dragon's Dogma 2. Its Steam listing allows five stored Arisen designs and five pawn designs, which are appearance presets rather than five progressed campaign saves. Use the same account and platform for import, and choose human or beastren carefully because ordinary in-game editing does not swap race during the current run.
Create the Arisen and Main Pawn separately
The Arisen is the player character, while the Main Pawn has a separate appearance design. Work through each one deliberately rather than assuming that finishing the player's face also creates the intended companion. The free creator tool supports preparing both before beginning the full game's character setup.
Consider how you want the two characters to look together, but keep their roles distinct. A design choice for the pawn does not automatically define the Arisen's vocation or playstyle. Use the appearance process for visual decisions and review the starting combat roles when planning the party you intend to use.
Choose human or beastren first
Human and beastren are the two researched race options. Choose the race and desired body preset before refining smaller cosmetic details. This decision deserves particular attention because ordinary Art of Metamorphosis editing does not change it during the current run.
Do not treat the ability to revisit a face or hairstyle later as evidence that race is equally reversible through the same service. If you are undecided, compare the two designs before accepting the initial setup. The later appearance route supports substantial editing but retains the human-versus-beastren restriction described by CAPCOM's FAQ.
Refine the body and face
Work through body proportions, the face, hair and cosmetic details after choosing the broad preset. Inspect the design under different lighting rather than judging every detail from one view. This is a practical way to check the appearance before importing it into the full game.
Body size has gameplay implications, but the collected brief does not establish exact carrying-capacity or stamina formulas. No invented numerical optimum is added to the design advice here. Choose a design you understand and like instead of assuming a particular slider position is a verified best build for every vocation.
Design the Main Pawn with its role in mind
Create the Main Pawn separately and consider the role you want it to fill in the party. Starting vocation and pawn behavior are relevant planning decisions alongside the visual design. A companion intended to support a damage-focused Arisen can have a different role from one accompanying a ranged player who needs frontline assistance.
The pawn-vocation guide starts with Mage as a practical support recommendation and offers alternatives by party need. It does not turn the appearance creator into a universal build calculator. Keep the pawn's look, eligible vocation and later equipment setup as connected but distinct decisions.
Stored designs are not progressed campaign saves
The Steam creator listing allows five stored Arisen designs and five stored pawn designs. These are appearance designs that can be prepared before the game begins. They are not five leveled characters with separately completed quests, inventory and campaign progress.
This distinction matters when comparing creator storage with the full game's save handling. A collection of visual presets answers which look you may want to use, not how many progressed campaigns exist. Do not infer a current campaign-save limit solely from the creator's design slots or from a launch-era article discussing a different version.
Use the same account and platform for import
CAPCOM's FAQ describes accepting the prompt to use existing character data when starting the full game's setup. Use the same account and platform, with the creator data available for that process. The import concerns the prepared appearance rather than progress earned in a separate adventure.
Before beginning, confirm that you are opening the full game in the account and platform context where the design was created. A design visible elsewhere is not, by itself, proof that it is available to the current setup. Check the actual existing-data prompt rather than assuming a universal cross-platform transfer that the collected material does not establish.
Accept the existing-character-data prompt
At the full game's character setup, use the prompt for the available existing character data. Review the imported appearance before confirming it as the design you want. This completes the connection between preparation in the free tool and the full game's opening setup.
If the expected design is absent, first review the account, platform and availability of the creator data. The brief does not establish one universal fix for every missing prompt, so no undocumented file path or recovery procedure is invented. Keep troubleshooting tied to the verified same-account and same-platform route.
Appearance transfer does not transfer campaign progress
The creator transfer concerns appearance setup, not completed quests, levels or inventory. Preparing several designs in the tool does not produce several developed Arisen characters ready for the campaign. Treat the import as a visual starting point rather than a shortcut to story progression.
This also separates creation from New Game Plus. A retained-character story cycle carries development under its own rules, while the creator provides designs for setup. Use the New Game Plus guide if the question is what progression survives another cycle rather than how to import a face and body design.
Starting vocation can be changed later
Choose a starting vocation that fits the combat style you want to learn. The researched starting options are Fighter, Archer, Thief and Mage, and vocation can be changed later through the appropriate in-game service. You do not need the opening choice to serve every role you might explore throughout the campaign.
The vocation roster explains the base classes, pawn eligibility and advanced unlock routes. Race and vocation have different editing implications, so do not apply the race restriction to the entire combat-class system. An appearance you want to keep can continue alongside later changes to your playstyle and equipment.
Later appearance editing and expansion context
During a playthrough, the Art of Metamorphosis and barberie route supports substantial character appearance edits without swapping human and beastren. Limited cosmetic services also exist separately. Use the appearance-change guide when you want to adjust an existing character rather than begin the original creator import again.
Launch-era editor demonstrations may predate later cosmetic additions, so their exact slider counts should not be treated as an exhaustive current limit. The reliable sequence is race, broad preset, detailed design, separate pawn setup and account-matched import. That process answers the creation question without inventing gameplay formulas, campaign slots or unsupported race changes.
Common questions
Does creator storage mean multiple progressed campaigns? The researched five Arisen and five pawn storage slots hold appearance designs. They do not contain separately completed quests, inventory and levels ready to transfer into the campaign. Use them to compare looks rather than infer the full game's current save handling from a visual preset feature.
What account context does the import need? Use the same account and platform with the creator data available during the full game's setup. CAPCOM describes accepting the existing-character-data prompt for the appearance transfer. If the expected design is missing, check that context before assuming an unsupported universal cross-platform transfer or inventing a recovery file path.
Which opening choice deserves care before confirmation? Choose human or beastren carefully because ordinary Art of Metamorphosis editing does not swap race during the current run. Starting vocation can be changed later through the relevant service, so the two decisions have different implications. Inspect the visual design and separate pawn setup before accepting the imported appearance.
